Standard chemical properties are standards developed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and are mainly used to prepare steel specifications and quality standards. The full name of the standard is "G40.21-2013 General Requirements for Steel Structures", which includes requirements on chemical composition, mechanical properties, physical properties, processing performance, inspection standards, and other aspects.

Chemical composition is the basis for judging the performance of metal materials, and the requirements for chemical composition in the G40.21 standard mainly involve the following aspects:
1. Carbon content (C): The carbon content in steel will affect its mechanical properties. The G40.21 standard requires a carbon content of no less than 0.18%.
2. Manganese content (M): Manganese has a significant impact on the tensile strength and toughness of steel. The standard requires a manganese content of no less than 1.40%.
3. Silicon content (Si): Silicon content has an important impact on the magnetism, corrosion resistance, thermoplasticity, and other properties of steel. The G40.21 standard requires a silicon content of no less than 0.15%.
4. Sulfur content (S) and phosphorus content (P): These two elements have a great impact on the heat treatment and corrosion resistance of steel. The standard requires that the sulfur content does not exceed 0.05% and the phosphorus content does not exceed 0.04%.
In addition to the above main indicators, the G40.21 standard also stipulates the maximum or minimum content limits of specific elements in steel, such as nitrogen, copper, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, cobalt, aluminum, titanium, niobium, tin, and other elements.
