In the two major systems of ships and ocean engineering, three types of square tubes are generally required, namely, special-purpose square tubes, square tubes used in construction, and square tubes in conventional systems:

(1) Rectangular tubes for special purposes

 Special-purpose square tubes refer to special square tubes used in specific working environments and working media. Submarine oil pipelines are typical special rectangular pipes, which are in great demand and have the characteristics of high strength, small tolerance, and good corrosion resistance. At present, the production of submarine oil pipelines in my country is still in its infancy, due to the welding materials, corrosion resistance or less specifications, and high prices.

(2) Rectangular tube in construction

Many structures in marine engineering use square rectangular tubes in large quantities, such as jackets, underwater steel piles, water risers, mooring supports, helicopter platforms, flare towers, etc. This type of square tube has many specifications, high material, same diameter, different diameters, different wall thicknesses, and a large number of Y, K, and T-shaped pipe joints. As jackets, steel piles, wellhead water barriers, etc., are mostly square and rectangular pipes with large diameters, which are generally made of steel plates. Their materials are E36-Z35, D36-Z35, E36, D36. The standard for this type of square tube is no longer YB and CB, but mainly GB712-2000.

(3) Rectangular tubes in conventional systems

 Different ships and ocean engineering have both conventional systems and special systems. The service life of a ship is generally 20 years. There are many conventional systems, mainly including bilge water, ballast, drainage, measurement, injection, fire protection, cargo oil, stripping, ventilation, water sprinkling, steam evaporation, liquid level remote measurement, valve remote control, and other systems. Special ships also include transportation Special systems for liquefied petroleum gas, liquefied natural gas, etc. The service life of marine engineering is generally as long as 30 years, or even longer. In addition to conventional systems in marine engineering, there are also special drilling equipment systems, crude oil/liquefied petroleum gas/liquefied natural gas processing process systems, special mooring systems, flare systems, and so on. It has been calculated that the annual consumption of pipes for ships is 4.5 million tons, about 440,000 pieces. The standards are GB, YB, and CB, and 70% of the square pipes are connected with each other. Only a 300,000-ton super oil tanker can use tens of kilometers of pipes, and only square pipes can use about 1,500 tons. Of course, the amount used for a 40,000-ton hull structure is still limited. In addition, considering that the same type of ship needs to be built many times, and there are many other ships, the cumulative consumption will be quite a lot. And a 300,000-ton ultra-large FPSO has more than 30,000 pipes and a length of more than 90 kilometers, which is 2-3 times that of the same tonnage level. Therefore, the shipbuilding industry has become a large user of the square tube market.
