The double-sided submerged arc process ensures end-to-end connection, reducing the possibility of edge misalignment and ensuring product quality.

The mechanical properties of the steel used in spiral seam double-sided submerged arc welded steel pipes are an important indicator for ensuring the final performance of the steel. This is determined by the chemical composition and heat treatment of the steel. Different requirements for use have been established in the steel pipe standard, with standards for tensile strength, yield strength or yield point, elongation, hardness, toughness, and high and low-temperature performance as required by users.

Straight seam welded pipes have a simple production process, high production efficiency, and low cost, and are rapidly developing. Spiral welded pipes generally have higher strength than straight-seam welded pipes. The use of narrower billets can produce larger-diameter welded pipes. The same billet width can also produce welded pipes of different diameters. However, the length of the welded seam is 30% to 100% longer than that of the same length of straight seam pipe, and production speed is lower. Therefore, smaller-diameter welded pipes mostly use straight seam welding, while larger-diameter welded pipes mostly use spiral welding.
