Production methods
There are many production methods for seamless pipes. Seamless steel pipes can be produced by hot rolling (approximately 80 to 90%) or cold rolling or cold drawing (approximately 10 to 20%) methods according to delivery requirements. The blanks used for hot-rolled pipes include round, square, or polygonal ingots, rolled billets, or continuous cast billets. The quality of the billets has a direct impact on the quality of the pipe. There are three basic processes for hot-rolled pipes: ① Pierce the ingot or billet into a hollow thick-walled capillary tube on a piercing machine; ② Thin the capillary tube on an elongation machine and extend it into a rough tube with a wall thickness close to that; ③ Roll it on a finishing mill. The finished tube is as required. The pipe rolling mill series is represented by the maximum outer diameter of the steel pipe produced.
