Cold-formed steel is an economic and lightweight thin-walled steel material with a variety of ultra-thin and complex cross-sections that cannot be produced by hot-rolling. Also known as steel cold-formed profiles or cold-bent profiles, it is the main material used to produce lightweight steel structures. Compared to hot-rolled steel, it has a 50% to 60% larger bending radius and a 0.5 to 3.0 times larger section modulus with the same cross-sectional area, allowing for a more rational use of material strength. Compared to traditional steel structures made of standard I-beams, channels, angles, and steel plates, it can save approximately 30% to 50% of steel materials. In some cases, the amount of steel used for cold-formed steel structures is comparable to that of steel-reinforced concrete structures under the same conditions, making it an economical steel material for structural applications.
