H-beam, also known as I-beam, is a structural steel component used in construction worldwide. H-beams are made by rolling or pressing steel into a profile that resembles the letter "H". The process of manufacturing H-beams requires high accuracy and precision to produce quality components.
The first step in manufacturing H-beams is to heat the steel billet until it reaches a plastic stage, meaning it is pliable but still solid. The billet is then passed through a rolling mill, which is made up of pairs of rollers. As the billet passes through the rollers, it is shaped into an H-beam. The process of rolling is repeated until the desired dimensions are achieved.
After the H-beam is rolled, it moves to a cooling bed, where it is cooled slowly to prevent distortion, warping, or cracking. In this stage, the H-beam is inspected to ensure that it meets the required dimensions and tolerances.
The next step is to cut the H-beam to the required length using a saw or plasma cutter. The H-beam is then drilled or punched with holes for connectors and fasteners, depending on its intended usage.
Finally, the H-beam is coated with a rust-resistant finish, such as galvanizing, to protect it against corrosion. It is then packed and shipped to the construction site, where it is installed according to the design specifications.
