What Is PHD™ Product Health Declaration?
Leave a message
As society's focus on sustainability, health, and wellness continue to grow, developers are increasingly interested in transparency about their products and manufacturing processes. Products used in a built environment should meet specific standards for the health and safety of all occupants. Global GreenTag's Product Health Declaration (PHD™) is a standardized way of reporting the content of construction products and their "health in use". This is a valuable tool. The use of Product Health Declarations (PHD™) can help architects, designers, and purchasers, as well as company leaders, reduce risk when they need to select products that are not harmful to the health of users and occupants.
What are PHDs™?
GreenTag's Product Health Declaration™ is the first certification tool of its kind in the world - it recognizes progressive manufacturers who fully disclose their product toxicity information with 100% transparency. GreenTag's PHD™ is necessary as proof of market access as it directly addresses human health issues - GreenTag's PHD™ certification is the world's first system for assessing the health impact of final products, not just analysis Hazardousness of ingredients. Global GreenTag's PHD™ can certify that products are safe for human (and ecosystem) health and can be used with absolute confidence in workplaces and residential projects.
When PHD™ is offered as an add-on service for GreenRate or LCARate certification, it does not require any additional work from the manufacturer. PHD™ provides recognized evidence for green building rating tools such as WELL™ and LEED® that require transparency of hazardous ingredients or require enhancement of ingredients. For the ingredient transparency requirements of Scheme 1, it is necessary to display the product ingredients and their hazards and be able to understand the hazards in the product, with a minimum of 1000ppm. Option 2 is to ensure that certain specific highly toxic materials or substances of very high concern (SVHCs classified by REACH) are eliminated from the product, so transparency means showing that the product has been improved by eliminating particularly problematic chemicals, for this option, Claims must have a transparency assessment of 100ppm.
Users don't have to be a toxicologist to understand the data. GreenTag presents the information requested by the rating tool in the required form. Then take a further step and do a risk analysis on the health of the workers. Finally, GreenTag further conducts a risk analysis on the health of the product in use and gives it a ranking.
What does PHD™ mean?
PHD can prove to the world that your product is healthy and: Interpret product toxicity data so that non-professionals can understand without barriers; Use simple and intuitive colors to indicate risk level;
Identify risks and manufacturers’ risk response measures (or inaction); help excellent manufacturers lead the industry with 100% transparency of product information; explain the impact of toxicity on health or the environment in easy-to-understand language; use HealthRATE "In use" effects on human health. Products that identify "Asthma and Allergen Sensitivity™" where applicable.
How recognized is the PHD™?
In July 2019, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recognized the use of GreenTag's PHD™ in the U.S. LEED® market and over 170 countries around the world under its world-leading building certification and rating system, LEED® Version 4.0 and 4.1.
First launched in 2017, GreenTag's PHD™ now holds a unique position in global green product certification. GreenTag's PHD™ is now recognized by LEED® as well as WELL™ - the International WELL™ Building Association's rating tool's Ingredient Hazard Transparency Report by leading product and material certification companies such as UL and Cradle to Cradle in the US and globally officially recognized. Meanwhile, PHD™ is recognized in North America by the Green Globes® Building and Sustainable Interiors rating tool and will be recognized in the new 2022 edition of Green Star®, which launches in Australia next year.
What is the scope of the PHD™ accreditation?
Any product - as long as it meets the requirements of the GreenTag standard, including:
All Building Construction & Infrastructure Products, All Interiors & Fitting Products, Commercial Construction Consumer Goods, Cleaning & Hygiene Products, Fibers & Textiles
Paper & Packaging, Stationery, Mattress & Bedding, Personal, Beauty & Hygiene Products, Uniform & Fashion, Food & Beverage Containers

HealthRATE™ Logo: In the upper right corner is the rating result with the HealthRATE™ Logo. This shows how healthy the product is "in use" rating, and whether it has been assessed for "Asthma and Allergen Sensitivity™". HealthRATE™ divides products into 4 health product categories. BronzeHEALTH, SIlverHEALTH, GoldHEALTH, and PlatinumHEALTH, with each higher category increasing the healthiness of products and ingredients during the "use" phase. Product, manufacturer, and certificate details. The first section at the top of the report provides product and manufacturer details, factory location, and expiration date. A health summary statement that shows a simple statement about how healthy a product is:
(1) users; (2) workers; (3) environmental health; (4) specific instructions for certification rating tools such as WELL™ and LEED
It is worth mentioning that GreenTag prohibits products containing Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) and SVHC Candidate List chemicals listed in the EU REACH program, as well as many other toxic and endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Therefore, any GreenTag-certified product is healthy in use and protects workers at any rated level during production.
Danger Ribbon: Three potential danger ribbons are shown: red (problematic elimination target), orange (moderate risk), yellow (moderate to low risk), and green (very low to no risk), The increments for each color band are 1%.
