JIS G3452 Equivalent ASTM

news-1920-600

JIS G3452 is a Japanese Industrial Standard that specifies carbon steel pipes for ordinary piping applications. The standard was established in 1988 and revised in 2005. JIS G3452 covers pipes with a nominal diameter of 10.5mm to 660.4mm and a wall thickness ranging from 1.7mm to 22mm. The standard classifies the pipes into three grades: SGP, STD, and SCH 40.

ASTM International is an American organization that develops and publishes technical standards for various materials, products, systems, and services. ASTM standards are widely used in the United States and around the world. When it comes to pipe standards, ASTM has a number of standards for carbon steel pipes, including A53, A106, and A333.

To find the equivalent ASTM standard for JIS G3452, we need to look at the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and other requirements specified in both standards. One of the main differences between JIS G3452 and ASTM standards is the unit of measurement used for the dimensions and properties of the pipes. JIS uses millimeters, while ASTM uses inches.

The chemical composition of JIS G3452 pipes is specified as follows:

  • Carbon content: 0.25% max

  • Silicon content: 0.35% max

  • Phosphorus content: 0.050% max

  • Sulfur content: 0.050% max

On the other hand, ASTM A53 pipes have the following chemical composition:

  • Carbon content: 0.3% max

  • Silicon content: 0.4% max

  • Phosphorus content: 0.05% max

  • Sulfur content: 0.05% max

Based on the above comparison, we can see that the chemical composition of JIS G3452 and ASTM A53 pipes is quite similar. However, the carbon content of ASTM A53 pipes is slightly higher.

In terms of mechanical properties, JIS G3452 specifies the following:

  • Tensile strength: SGP - 315MPa min, STD - 350MPa min, SCH 40 - 410MPa min

  • Yield strength: SGP - 205MPa min, STD - 245MPa min, SCH 40 - 290MPa min

  • Elongation: SGP - 25% min, STD - 20% min, SCH 40 - 18% min

  • Hardness: SGP - HRB65 max, STD - HRB80 max, SCH 40 - HRB95 max

In comparison, ASTM A53 pipes have the following mechanical properties:

  • Tensile strength: 415MPa min

  • Yield strength: 240MPa min

  • Elongation: 30% min

  • Hardness: not specified

Based on the above comparison, we can see that the mechanical properties of JIS G3452 and ASTM A53 pipes are quite similar. However, JIS G3452 specifies different requirements for different grades of pipes, while ASTM A53 specifies uniform requirements for all pipes.

In conclusion, the equivalent ASTM standard for JIS G3452 depends on the specific requirements and applications of the pipes. ASTM A53 is a commonly used standard for carbon steel pipes in the United States, and it has similar chemical and mechanical properties to JIS G3452 pipes. However, other ASTM standards such as A106 and A333 may be more appropriate for certain applications, depending on factors such as temperature, pressure, and corrosion resistance. It is important to consult the relevant standards and specifications to ensure the proper selection and use of carbon steel pipes.
